Back by popular demand, The Lyons History Pictorial compiled by Lyons native Linda Skiles is now available for purchase. From the first settlers arriving to the territory of Lyondale, to the town of Lyons as we know it today, her book titled “Things I Know and The Stories I’ve Been Told” covers the entire Township of Lyons encompassing, the village of Lyons, the village of Springfield, south to Hwy 50 and east to the Town of Burlington border. Starting in May of 2008, Skiles spent last summer gathering pictures, interviewing residents, researching old records and tracking down people that have moved from the area to get their story to include in the book. By Christmas over three hundred copies had been sold and by January they were sold out. “I wasn’t prepared for the overwhelming response and had only ordered 400 copies. “The weekly requests to purchase a copy and knowing there are a lot of individuals that don’t yet know about the book, but would be interested, prompted me to consider a second printing,” Skiles said. ”Born and raised in the village of Lyons this collection of history, stories and photos of the Township of Lyons is a tribute to the people; I have grown up with, worked for, learned from and lived next to my entire life.” One hundred six pages in length, the book includes over 250 photos, both past and present, of the people, buildings and activities throughout the Township over the past one hundred sixty years. Designed in an 8.5 x 10.75 landscape format, the book will be printed in full color with a laminated soft cover. It is sure to “spark” memories of times past. In time for Christmas gift giving, the book sells for $30.00. A limited number of books will be ordered and will be sold on a first come first serve basis. I don’t anticipate doing a third run. Books will be available by Labor Day. Reserve your copy today by mailing your check and order blank or name, address, e-mail address and phone number to Linda Skiles, P.O. Box 73, Lyons, WI 53148. If you require shipping include an additional $6.00 for priority shipping. Books will be available for pickup in Lyons approximately September 4th.
